AVC (Arc Voltage Control) in Welding Boom

04/02/2011 10:50 PM

What is the function of AVC in welding boom? What is the probable reason for hunting of the AVC during welding? The quality of weld puddle formed due to hunting of AVC is found to be improper.

electronic or hardware fault ?

what kind of wire feeder is it ?

i have seen hunting when a wire feeder chassis was accidentally touching the job being welded causing electronic interference . it was solved by replacing some broken nylon insulators .

is there a digital readout which shows the arc voltage is fluctuating during welding ?

does the machine have constant wire speed or synergic auto adjustment ?

has the torch liner been checked for blockages from rust or metallic powder ?

have the wire feeder drive rollers been checked to see if they are out of round ?

has the roll of wire been checked to see if it is free to rotate or being caught on something ?

has the control cable from power source to wire feeder been checked for intermittent faults or shorts , poor connection etc ?

more information please

eliminate one thing at a time until you get to the source

along with all the stuff Nothing asked, are you rotating machine or workpiece? if machine ,who's? (Encompass ,Boretech ,Amet etc) how have you determined that the AVC is the problem? what are you welding and with what wire? and where? in shop or on site?
