04/08/2011 5:49 PM

Just wander, for a Bottom Slope steel oil storage tank, is thereany requirement for min or max slope?

As I did not find any thing on API 650.

Thanks.

Just a wild guess: minimum = 0°; maximum < 90°.

(I'm pretty sure there are flat-bottom tanks, and wedge-shaped tanks that fit the contours of boats.)

............................................

As clearly indicated at API 12F "Shop Welded Tanks for Storage of Production Liquids" (and API 12D "Field Welded Tanks for Storage of Production Liquids"), Para. 3.6, the tank bottom shall be flat, or of the type A (unskirted) or type B (skirted) cone design, as specified in the purchase order. Type A and type B cone bottoms shall conform to Fig. 2 and 3 respectively.

If a tank bottom slope is required , a cone up or cone down to the center slope of
1:100 or 1:120 is a normaly practice.

Thanks Guys.

In API 650 5.4.4 , it mentioned "5.4.4 Unless otherwise specified on the Data Sheet, Line 12, tank bottoms requiring sloping shall have a minimum slope of 1:120 upwards toward center of the tank. "

Thus, I thought normally it is bigger than 1:120 and there is no max limit. Not sure if it is right.
