New Nano-Cellulose Fibers

04/11/2011 11:29 AM

Newswise - ANAHEIM, March 27, 2011 - Your next new car hopefully won't be a lemon. But it could be a pineapple or a banana. That's because scientists in Brazil have developed a more effective way to use fibers from these and other plants in a new generation of automotive plastics that are stronger, lighter, and more eco-friendly than plastics now in use. They described the work, which could lead to stronger, lighter, and more sustainable materials for cars and other products, here today at the 241st National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS)

The fibers & resulting plastic are lighter & stronger than traditional plastics

FRP with less petroleum used in the manufacture

Question if we can make plastics stronger will that not lead to more uses. There for the need of more plastics. A lot of which are produce from petroleum products. Not to belittle the the research or the development. We could use stronger plastics. Just seems they are selling it as a cure for petroleum usage. Which it may not.

Right the fibers don't require petroleum, but what about the heat to make the fibers?

there are some resins derived from corn & the like, but they don't have the longevity of stuff from oil

Ideally plastics & lubrication are the best possible uses for petroleum products

I wonder what the total life cycle comparisons look like for

bioplastic

plastic

steel

Presumably, we can use solar process heat for refining nanocellulose. As a reinforcing agent for standard thermoplastics, it lets us economize on the total tonnage of plastic quite well. There have also been long-standing successes at making plastics from peanuts and soybeans, with fairly small amounts of petroleum-derived ingredients.

Process natural fiber using paper technology.Extract nano materials escaped in pulp filtration ,mould it and use the products, hard ,light weight, heat resistant ,photo voltaic , echo friendly.
