Clarification of Used Lubricant Oils

04/13/2011 8:30 AM

How are all of you? I'm working on the clarification of used lubricant oils with acid and alkali treatment. The acid I m using is sulphuric acid 98% and alkali is bleaching clay. The problem after canvas cloth filtration is the undesirable odor of the clarified oil. Please advise me how can I eliminate this undesirable odor of acid and clay from the clarified oil. Either I should use some deodorizer and what should be the dosage level of that deodorizer?

There are two solutions that come to my mind:

  1. Ventilation of the reaction area will control where things smell.
  2. Hire a Chemist and/or Chemical Engineer to examine your reagents, and facility to see if you have all of the proper equipment to do this.

My personal preference would be to use solution #2.

Remember, if you're not part of the solution then you're a precipitate.

If you are intending to prepare a renewed lubricant oil you need to do more actions, You should, in first place, wash your product after clarificatión, wash with water, checking the ph of the used water until it be 5.5- 7.0, then you should reincorporate some additives in order to do a good lubricant, remember the oil in only one vehicle that transports the active materials, the oil also has lubricant properties.
