Keep Your Eye on the Balls

04/10/2007 8:56 AM

Check out this game from a Georgia Tech student and his girlfriend built in just one day: http://www.k2xl.com/games/boomshine/

How to play: the screen is filled with a varying number of colorful dots. With a click of your mouse, you create an orb, which expands, ensnaring the dots. When your orb hits a dot, that dot expands and swallows up other dots. The goal is to create a chain reaction, by which you encase as many colored dots as possible.

As you move up in levels, you must join up more and more of the infuriating dots until at last you throw your stinking computer out the window. I can't get past level 12 and it's driving me crazy.

So level 12 is the last level, but once you finish it you will realize that your score is insignificant compared to those that have the high score and then you start to wonder, what now do I have to do to get on the high score list and you begin again...AHHHHHH is right!

I agree with you. My final score was 247, but I got 57 out of 60 on level 12. This is a neat game, and I love the music that goes with it.

Ahhhh. It's really not that hard. I got to level 12 in less than three minutes. Of course, I can't tell you how many hours I've spent in labs watching that "Colliding Galaxies" screen saver on UNIX boxes. It's pretty much the same thing.

I know this is going to sound really new-agey, but just turn off your thinking (there's no time limit), relax, and let your eyes do the work. You're looking for the locus of a lot of dots with a general motion of heading toward each other. You brain will suddenly catch the point on the screen; then click your mouse!

To show you how bizarre the world has become regarding the Internet, within two days of your posting I couldn't find a single one of my younger friends that hadn't already played Boomshire! "Oh yeah. You're talking about Boomshire. That game with the dots, right?"

Dang!!!

Curse that Surf Control. And a double curse on all teenagers that make gaming look so easy.

Alright, after numerous attempts my final score never exceeded 269. So I eventually gave up and decided to try this game Drunkwalk.

Give it a try if you get a chance, my best so far is 81 meters. He starts to get a little out of sorts at about 55 - 65 though!
