Flat Head Design

05/01/2011 7:05 AM

I have a flat head with two openings to designed as per ASME VIII Div2. These two openings are closed by a smaller flange attached to the head by bolting . Since the opening is not having welded nozzle, I can consider reinforcing area from head only. But this requires thicker head. Is there any option to design the head economical apart from FEA.

You incorrectly presume that because you know what you are talking about others do as well. You would stand a better chance of getting some help if you provide context, application details, drawings etc..

I have a round head with seven openings. Could it possibly be any thicker?

I would suggest you thump the unfriendly type who gave you the flat head in the first place and don't try and blame any of us!!!!!

In fact, although a peaceful type, may I suggest you thump him TWICE as hard, he deserves it!!!
