US Tornados

05/01/2011 5:54 PM

From us guys and gals in the Southern Hemisphere, we hope that all our colleaugues in the US are in good spirit and all well.

The recent news "down under" is that you have suffered a significant swarm of twisters and there are some people that need to know we care for them and wish them all well in this troubled time.

On behalf of those who no longer have an internet connection, or a house to put it in, Thanks.

While this pales in comparison to the hurricanes and oil slicks of the recent past, it is no less devastating to those affected by the disaster.

The loss of life is an added burden for these souls to endure, not to mention the total loss of property and belongings.

I was born in Arkansas, but never had to deal with anything like this.

Hi Just an Engineer, Auckland NZ has just suffered a tornado two people have died, but according to the news it could have been a lot worse, if it happened 5 minutes later kids would have been leaving school and could have been in harms way.

About 8 years ago a tornado went over my workshop it sounded like a large jet aeroplane flying over my roof top, and it riped of off the clear lite roofing, I thought the door was going to fly away.

My heart goes out to the people, all over the World that have been affected by the great force of Mother Nature, that seems to be plaguing out planet at the moment.

Day after day the news of this devastation is just overwhelming.

We recently had a truck come up from the southern US. While it was being unloaded various articles of clothing and personal effects were found to have lodged between the crates.

Thank you for that... in a world so filled with antipathy, it is warming to know someone cares for us here in the states.

I know how we feel for your tragedy, and that of others throughout the world. It seems like the majority of the world judges the whole of our country by our foreign policy enacted by our government, when the simple matter is, we don't really like our government either.

I live in Georgia, and hit the basement 5 times for tornado warnings... especially when the BIG one that mowed down Tuscaloosa, AL came 10 miles North of us.

SCARY, very SCARY. It was a mile wide, stayed on the ground for 200 miles and destroyed everything in it's path.

Thanks again for helping resotre my faith in humanity...!!

It doesn't matter where you call home. Whether it's a tornado, hurricane, flood, earthquake, avalanche, etc. when mother nature is angry we're reminded how small we all are. We like to get complacent and think we have control of things, we only do for moments in time. Every place has it's own beauty and inherent dangers. The key is do what you can do live in harmony in the region you call home but always be prepared!

I'd like to think I'll never again bear witness to what happened in Japan...but I will. I live in California, a Great Quake will come and it WILL be devastating. As much as we might think we're in charge, we never will be.

Thank you for the thoughts. Where I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is usually thought of as rather benign weatherwise.

The night those storms came through I was woken by the unusual severity and was pretty much afraid to go back to sleep. I turned on the tv to get the latest info and the constant tornado warnings kept me awake. Three tornadoes were confirmed moving up the valley along Interstate 81 while I was watching. My house has no basement or inside rooms except for a very tight furnace closet so I felt the need to be awake to run if necessary. (I know - futile thought )

Next day we found that we had somewhere between 3 and 9 tornadoes within 20 miles of my house. The weather service is still evaluating what were tornadoes and what was wind sheer.

It was a scary night for this area but we were fortunate that while there was a couple of million dollars damage, there were no deaths or injuries.
