Need Imperial Fittings

05/04/2011 4:16 PM

Does anyone know of a source for Imperial Fittings. I am working in an older power plant and we have dozens we need to replace the ferrules on? Thought about converting to Swagelok, but that is really pricey.

Consider converting to Swagelok as an investment that will pay off every time you service the equipment in the future.

A google on "imperial tube fittings" got many hits, but I don't know how up-to-date or whether you can match your existing ones.

Imperial Eastman actually invented the compression fitting after the turn of the last century, but lost its bearings over time. Parker bought what was left of the company over a decade ago. Parker dropped most of the fitting lines, because they duplicated what Parker already had, but Parker adopted some of the hose fittings.

I consider the PolyFlo (for plastic tubing) and the standard brass compression fitting components are interchangeable with Parker brass compression fittings.

Imperial's carbon steel and stainless steel HiSeal line was actually made for them by a Brazilian (?) company, Detroit Fluid Power, if I remember correctly. These are high performance fittings whose components do not interchange.

It's my understanding that Detroit Fluid Power continued to manufacture that the former Hi Seal line under the brand name D Seal after the acquisition of Imperial by Parker, but that goes back aways in time and I haven't used fittings in over a decade. I'm not sure whether the D Seal line is still available or not. It might still be out there but have new branding.

A Google search brings up Flowline listings for Hi Seal.

This answer took me exactly where I needed to go. Thank you very much.

This particular website did not have the steel or stainless steel fittings, and the initial contact with FlowLine gave me another number to call who is the manufacturer of these. (Field Plastics, the wholesaler). They in turn informed me to substitute the B (for brass) over to an S (for steel) and SS (for Stainless Steel).

Not only will this save me major dollars I don't have in my budget, but will let me repair instead of re-plumb the system.

It would really be nice to have the cadilac of fittings, but as stated in the OP, swagelok is just too darn pricey. Again, THANKS!

What are the chances of changing the whole fitting? Sounds possibly that these have been in line for a while by your description. There are many manufactures that have a single or double ferrule set. If this needs to be replaced and you do not change all of them you will constantly be chasing alternative issue's. With an updated to the acceptance of the customer Swagelok, SSP, parker and many others have a variety of options as you probably;y already know. there are many distributors that can provide these for you along with literature and testing standards for your application. these same companies can provide you with the tubing as well. Just a thought as I run into this frequently. The initial investment hurts a bit, but the Preventive maintenance and up keep goes done after the installation of the new items.

Hi peteolsen,

Do you know the manufacturer?, what material are they?, is it a single or twin ferrule type?, is it an OD (outside diameter) or NB (nominal bore) pipe size?.

Best regards,

John
