Methane Water dryer help please with hysys

05/05/2011 12:04 PM

Hi All,,

1st of all I just joined here,, abit off me chemical engineer (still newbie) with 6 years experience and now doing masters degree.

my project is to build a methanol plant by using methane without having any loss in methane (production rate 3600ton/day)

I managed to do methanol plant.. production rate is 3600ton/day with 98.5% purity but I am loosing 12 ton/day of methane with my H2/N2 purge...

Once I reduced my looses to 12 tons I lost a bit of purity, higher purity the better

so I was thinking of dehydration system then distillation to recover the methane and at the same time increase my purity but I am unable to do the dryer wondering if any off u can help here with hysys..

Cheers

You're obviously looking for a shortcut here. I only have a BSChE, but have several years experience (but not in HySys).

I doubt that you will find anyone here that knows HySys. Perhaps someone will remember it from college, since only the institutions of higher learning seem to be able to afford these (we used PRO II and Aspen when I was in school) software packages.

What I am getting at is that you need to go back to your Unit Operations and review dehydration theory. This, along with delving into the HySys help/tutorial system, will get you where you want to be.

There is a reason that MSc degreed people draw the higher salaries: they are those who went above and beyond the standard (BSc) learning and chose the harder path.

Asking for help here leads me to believe that you don't really believe in hard work or independent learning; both of which go far to create exceptional individuals.

Its not about goin back or anything, I worked with dehydration units in gas fields in western Australia, using TEG and Micro sieves.. my problem is Hysys.. and the lecturer dosnt want me to do it with TEG since it will cost more.. the other problem our lecturers dont have industrial background so u could imagine wht they want from us is not always reasonable... if its up to me, I will be happy to with 12ton loss per day and a production of 3600ton per day.. as I can sell my purge gas since its 40%N2, 42% H2 to any other service company for N2, H2 production for industrial purposes.. the other option use of H2, Methane with a fired heater to save power...
