How to Assess Lose of Fire/Fire Heat Affected Sponge Iron?

05/06/2011 2:46 AM

I am loss adjuster in india and has come across loss assessment of fire/fire heat affected sponge iron.

The fact of the case is that the hot molten suddenly came out of the induction furnace during its operation and splashed in the surrounding vicinity at considertable distance.

The hot molten fall on the hip of sponge iron and the sponge iron started burning liberating trumendous heat in surrounding. The red hot sponge iron is clearly visible and when the top portion of the hip was lifted using magnet, the bottom was found with some flame and clear red hot sponge iron.

Now I would like to know followings?

1. Is it a case of spontaneous combustion or Fire?

2. How the ignition has initiated?

3. What will be the effect on properties of sponge iron after fire/fire heat damaes?

4. Is the Sponge iron is a Total Loss or its only quality loss?

5. What kind of metallurgical testing is required to know the extent of damages.

Regs.,

1 Poor OPERATION

2 Is not Ignition

3 Nothing has been damaged. Recharge to furnace

4 See 3

5 Nothing needed. Just teach the furnaceman the fundamentals of Boiling Steel in Induction mode

I thank u very much for your valuabale guidance.

the insured is still not conviced and want to claim total loss of the sponge iron.

Now the issue is to prove the things on paper and burden of proving the same lies on me.

Under such circumstances, what methodology i should adopt to prvove that there is no loss.
