Why can't engineers leave things alone?

30-40 years ago we didn't have a lot of stuff.....................but the stuff we had worked.

I'm too old the think hard any more. I hate change, that brings no benefit to the user. It's just self serving BS that makes the "pros" hide all the good stuff in the name of "improvement". Well, BS I say.

All I can say, is the motto for all businesses used to be, " The customer comes first".

Now, profit is first, stockholders are second, and customers come in last.

Granted, these browsers are free for us....................but, like most of us already know..............there is no such thing as a free lunch.

With the browser above, as well as any other free crap from anywhere that pops up, I deny it. Just take the very basic free sh*t and ignore everything else.

Slimbrowser is great: but it keeps nagging me to update to the latest version.

I've still not found anything which enigma :- http://www.suttondesigns.com/ doesn't do properly, and, it hasn't changed for years.

I suspect that as people start using more exotic features to create web pages enigma will start to look a bit dated. That'll be the time I change over fully to Slim which is still under active development.

Thanks. For now, I've reloaded the old, soon to be unsupported version of FF. I also downloaded enigma and slim and will play around with them.

I think it's ridiculous to have to relearn a software package just so the maker can claim it's newer and faster.

I am with you on this. I feel the updates exist merely to substantiate someones Job.

I always preferred "Firefox" in the past but share your frustration with it lately.

I have also encountered an increase in "Crashes" in the past few months.

I now am using "Google Chrome" more often, but it isn t anything to "write home and tell Mom about"

I tried Google Chrome late last year, but didn't like it at the time, so deleted it! Interesting to read about FF4 - maybe I wont update to it ! I don"t like Outlook express either as it doesn't work for me!

You are right - Mozilla's gone stupid. Maybe they hired the windows millennium idiots.

I had a look and clicked "no thanks". I imagine a lot, who have better things to do than 'find the frigging buttons' and 'get rid of the rubbish', will too.

I wonder if this is going to overlap into thunderbird email.

Since it's working fine, I guess I'll say no thanks to the current upgrade just in case.

I like the constant updates that you get that never seem to actually fix bugs.

There's a bug in Mentor's PADS that persists through version after version. I reported it several times but never got any satisfaction. They've updated the GUI, added database functionality and all manner of bells and whistles, but the one particular bug is still there.

In general, I don't care about GUI improvements. Especially those that don't offer any serious improvements in ease of use or real functionality.

I watched as a previous employer decided to move to an "Outlook" style GUI (seriously, Outlook, the most unintuitive user interface ever). They chose to use the Office 2003 look and feel. I watched as Office 2007 rolled out and obsoleted their Office 2003 look and feel before it was ever publicly released. But he who made the decision to go with Office 2003 still has his job, and me, I'm on my second so-so job since.

I don't understand the point of Outlook { or thunderbird}

If I'm not online why would I want to deal with my email?

It's far better to not have email stuck on one computer

a lot of the weird revisions to browsers & other apps are because of touchscreen tablet devices

Adobe is another that I wiped off my computer quite some time ago. I'm using the foxit reader for pdf files, etc. So far it hasn't tried to take over my computer.

what player do you use for flash?

I've been just using the windows media player. I was using realplayer, but that started getting weird too. I don't watch many videos on the computer, I need to get over to cnet and see what's out there.

I'll agree, Adobe is pretty bad. No getting around Flashplayer, but I'm using Foxit as a pdf reader as well. Adobe reader always left a process called 'wisptis.exe' running after it 'closed'. I never figured out what it did, but I have other uses for the RAM it was taking up.
