Firefox is Junk

05/08/2011 10:34 AM

All of a sudden, I can only open one FF browser at a time. I can no longer open multiple copies at the same time as before I tried FF4 and decided that it was total junk. I've reloaded FF 3.6.7 but now can only open one at a time.

Any ideas.

Hi Lyn

You can add another Tab in FF4 ( + on tab) and open a second browser - but not on the same site

I did manage to open 2 browsers on CR4. but it chucked away one of the other sites.

Not very consistent!!!!!

Really frustrating. Before, I could open a dozen if I wanted, now only one. FF is really starting to enrage me.

Thanks.

I felt the same way, so I use Chrome and IE. I've got Opera installed too, but don't have enough experience with it to form an opinion.

IMO FF used to be #1 for speed and reliability, now it's the slowest option available.

Mine's working fine. Just went out and opened 4 different sites without an issue using my bookmarks and the browser site.

I updated to FF4 & had problems playing embedded video so went back to 3.6.10. I've just opened 2 CR4 tabs without any problem & also opened a 2nd FF browser again showing CR4.

Strangely, I started having the same video access problems in FF3.6.10, I updated to FF4 & it all works again.

Go to File>Edit>Preferences>Tabs. Uncheck 'Automatically focus on new tab' or something equivalent in your FF language. Possibly new defaults in new version. S.M.

Hi lyn,

I've never been that keen on FF. With the latest edition, you can't even designate the site a new tab will open to.

I am trying slimbrowser and enigma. Slimbrowser seems to be better in that I can still zoom in and out by pressing <Ctrl> and scrolling with my mouse. Enigma doesn't have that function (not to say that there isn't some setting in the program to make it so).

On loading slimbrowser, all of my favorites were there without having to go through an "Import Favorites" function.

So far it seems pretty good.

Thanks Kramarat! (until something goes wrong - then I will hunt you down like a dog.

Right click on any link and say open in new window, at least that will give you a secong browser, but with tabs why bother, just more memory?

you might give

Chrome a spin

you can duplicate a tab, which is similar to multiple instances

if you just must have multiple instances, you can open incognito windows, the downside is anything you do doesn't show up in your browsing history

I am running windows 7 64 bit and ctl+N works just fine, you might try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Just save your bookmarks first.

I have been using Slimbrowser for a while now. Faster than FF and has about the same options.

I have a 2.16Ghz 15" MacBook Pro (about 3.5 years old,or maybe 4.5...) Running OS10.6.7 and Firefox 10.3.17. I had never tried opening multiple windows before, as multiple tabs worked just fine. I just tried opening a second window, and that worked fine too. I do use Firefox, since the CR4 toolbox does not appear in Safari (last time I tried, which may have been a year or two ago).

I just updated to Firefox 4.0.1 a day or two ago, and so far, so good. No problems.

Here's our Dogwood in bloom, just to try the toolbar.

Re: Firefox is Junk

I just upgraded Firefox from 3.6.17 to 4.0.1 because of this thread.
My system is old (ancient) P4, 1.5GHz, 1GB, Ubuntu Lucid OS, with slow(lite) 90kB/s internet.
The rearrangement of the toolbars is slightly annoying, but I'll soon get used to it.
Other than that, no problems here with multiple or duplicate tabs, windows, or browsers.

Thanks, all.

I'm beginning to think it's just operator ignorance.

But, I definately do not like FF v4 and will not use it.

For PC: close file sharing and reboot. Turn on file sharing after loading FF, or and please don't get angry, buy a MacBookPro. FF4 initial ver. was geared towards Macs and have some problems when used on PC's that don't have Dualcore processors. Try the intel site (FAQ) for other workarounds. Sundog∑

I sure did. this is what happens when you get served coffee with lime juice in it and the smart a** that pulled it off is sitting across the table, Canon in hand. My ex said that was the same look I gave her when she wrecked my Lincoln. I wish I would have listened to her more on things like this.

I like this one much better but you can't see my blue/green eyes. This one is titled guess what happens if you take my picture again...... peace Sundog

actually I prefer FF, all in all its about as fast as any other and doesn't have a hog footprint like IE, plus its safer. And I like the more page space not taken up by 100 toolbars.

Re: Firefox is Junk

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Firefox. I have used it without difficulty for about 5 years. My son phoned last night to say he had updated his copy to 4.01 and lost connectivity with his wireless router. I talked him through a Restore to a previous time (Windows XP)and all was well. It looked like the modem drivers got corrupted. He has upgraded to 4.01 and all works fine.

My copy will open multiple instances of itself with multiple tabs so I can only assume that something has got corrupted during the upgrade. Try Restoring to a date prior to your upgrade. That should clear the problem then reinstall the older version again.

Good luke
