How To Build and Test ESD Floor?

05/14/2011 8:15 AM

Since this is requiring two ways of knowledge in civil and electrical engineering. I hope that the respected admin group will not mind if the post my question in two sections.

Anyone here used to work with ESD floor? It is special floor made up by ESD tiles.

As my understanding, ESD floor is there to protect Electrostatic discharge. So, the floor may require a special kind of testing. I don't know the procedure of tiling, but if it is combined by piece of tile? Do we need to test every tile before tiling? And then do we need to recheck the overall floor?

ESD flooring is manufactured and installed in India by one of the group companies of AET Flexible Space . . . . for more information on the subject - you may contact Mr.Rassiwala through http://www.flexiblespace.in/

The whole ESD floor area are grounded through or via the building ground. Special adhesives were used during tile placements and grounding conductivity are continuously measured and monitored with alarm limits set! Regular conductivity or resistance checking are done on a weekly basis. Integrity of continuities between tiles are measured by a technician walking around the whole area while wearing a conductive shoes coupled onto an ohmmeter, taking notes of all resistance readings between steps along the way!

This is an old technique, expensive way of controlling ED! Electrostatic discharges can be effectively controlled via the use of proper humidity control in its place.
