Bearing

05/14/2011 3:15 PM

i have a vertical steel rod which is under compression. It has a load only in vertical direction( Two force member) . It should be connected to plates from bottom and top. What type of bearing should be used? i m considering thrust ball bearing.Any suggestions?

I'm not sure you need a bearing, at least, not an anti-friction bearing. Do you expect the rod to move?

Why do you think you need a bearing, if nothing moves?

I shouldn't speculate, but maybe he thinks he needs (and he is probably right) something that I would call a bearing plate, to spread the load out so it is not a "point" load.
