I agree with Tornado, except "can of worms" is probably more appropriate.

This sounds like some off-shoot of 6 sigma or some other pie-in-the-sky BS crap dreamed up by some MBA without an ounce of common sense.

I'd go somewhere other than an engineering forum to get an education on this topic.

IT's Quality Assurance

Our complex production facility is trying to fit into the new STANDARD WORK FORMULA, whereby all jobs are focused on the 3 top tasks and the work revolves around the 3 tasks being done in order and started by a 'trigger' (ie; an alarm telling you your are almost out of labels).

Greate idea! not. None of our functions have less than a dozen or so tasks to perform the required work that is demanded by the PROCESS not the CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT team.

So, loosely speaking, our PCI is 3. (how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?)
