To echo what Brich is saying - if you can do a rough calculation in your head, and you know the basic principles, you can see if the computer is giving you a value that is reasonable or something is wrong and you need to check the input values etc.

e.g. if the computer told you a 1mm wire was good for 4000A, would you believe it? It's right there on the screen, must be right... right?
