Feasibility of Absorption Chiller

05/26/2011 8:12 AM

Our plant is using steam for 'steam autoclaves' and 'hydraulic moulding press'.A boiler of capacity 3TON is employed for this.Steam is maintained at a pressure 7 kg/cm2. Machines doesnt use steam continously. It is released to surroundings after use.Is it possible to install a absorption chiller using this steam and of what capacity?

Yes it is. To do what, though?

Absorption chiller may be more feasible, because it requires heat, not more pressure like steam jet refrgn.

Yes you can use absorption chillers. Commercial Lithium Bromide absorption chillers are available in the market. Sanyo is one of the manufacturers. Vapor absorption systems are recommended for cooling when waste heat is available freely or at lower price.

Thank you all for your extended support.

I have seen articles about using waste heat of power generators to run absorption chillers...But I didn't get how the waste heat is used...How this heat can be used as the input to an absorption chiller. Our plant is using a generator of capacity 550KVA,Diesel Type,400KW...Is this generator enough to run a absorption chiller??And can we use the waste heat of this generator and early mentioned boiler steam for the same absorption chiller??Please mention capacity of chiller that can be used...

Using waste heat from diesel generator for absorption chiller is not economical because it is too small. Steam can be used and capacity of chiller will depend on quantity of steam available for it. The best way for you is to contact some absorption chiller suppliers.
