Installing Grab Sampler and PICO Controller Instruments

05/28/2011 2:40 PM

Hi guys,

I'm Installing an Auto Sampler on a Quality Loop System to Grab Sample from an Oil flow line. The Instruments Installed are Grab Sampler/Sample Drive 20CD (24VDC) from NuFlu Measurement Systems Company and Allen Bradley PICO Controller L12BWB. These Instruments are using Pulses, Now, how do i get the PICO controller to work with the Grab Sampler through the Potentiometer? Although, I'm not the Supplier of the whole unit, the Supplier refuses to provide the detailed wiring diagram and drawing.

Now. there is a 24VDC coming from the SCADA room that powers the Grab Sampler as well as the PICO controller, and also a BS&W monitor which is being controlled by an Honey Well Controller. The BS&W monitor is controlled by the Honey Well controller and is working perfectly well, but the Grab Sampler is not. I have done my termination base on the wiring diagram and drawing provided by client which are not detailed yet the PICO is not controlling the Grab Sampler. The Grab Sampler right now is on Time repeat mode which you can adjust through the potentiometer to Grab Sample at your desired seconds, the challenge is that there is no wiring diagram that shows how to connect the Grab Sampler to the PICO controller, and I believe we can do this through the Potentiometer of the Grab Sampler. But I do I do this? You have any information to assist me kindly send to me. My e-mail is:edmundusystemco@yahoo.co.uk

Hi Edmund, You should never display your email address on a public forum, I should know I did it and got an absolute flogging, from other members from CR4.

But about your problem, your PLC has 8 digital inputs and 4 relay outputs. 2 of the inputs can be used as an analogue 0-10vdc inputs. So now the question is how do you get the 10vdc supply required for the analogue input? Get a 10KΩ linear pot and a 14kΩ 1/4 watt resistor and wire them as;

Now after wiring in the pot control you have to write the software, do you have the software for the Pico Controller? You will need this if you want to go further.

I hope this was of help.

Cheers

Joe

Thank you Joe,

I will try using what you sent am sure it will be of help to us.

As regards the 10VDC supply, I findout that from the Output of the Pico Controller, am getting a 10VDC to the Grab Sampler. and what is required for the Grab Sampler is a 24VDC. Also, on the 24VDC Grab Sampler Card there is a 12VDC output as well, how do i reconsile the two? I need ur input as well. Please note that the whole operation is either on time mode or Voluem(flow propotional) which are Pulse driven. The Grab Sampler from what I know now is not digital. As regards the Pico, I don't have the Software but I do have the Generic manual on the Model PICO L12BWB. Don't know how far that can go.
