CSEP Material

05/30/2011 5:27 AM

hi all,

I have seen a material named as CSEP in a P&ID. I searched it in net but I can't get. My assumption is Carbon steel Epoxy painted. IS it correct. This material is used in Sea water reverse osmosis system. Please clarify.

Thanks in advance

I too tried searching on "CSEP" material (both steel and plastic), but got nothing useful. Your guess of "carbon steel epoxy painted" might sound reasonable, but it seems that stainless or plastic would fit your application better. Is there any way you can ask the drawing provider what the abbreviation means? Or is there a drawing legend or other document that describes it fully?

Your interpretation is correct. We use MSEP meaning Mild Steel Epoxy Painted for our piping in Effluent Treatment Plant specs. We also sometimes refer to the same as CSEP.

Obviously sea water is very corrosive so the material is suitable for the service.

Your assumption seems to be correct. It is a good practice to expand the short forms in drawings or material approval list to avoid this type of confusion.
