Water Conservation

05/31/2011 7:20 AM

Hi

I have been given the task of water conservation in an ice-cream industry. For cleaning of that parts of machine which can be dis-assembled easily are put on a table and then manually washed through pipes which result in water wastage.

Will the installation of nozzles be of any help.?

Definitely install nozzles.

You will have higher pressure which will help clean your equipment faster thus utilizing less water.

Q1=Q2

=

V1A1=V2A2.

Just figure out your flow in and calculate the nozzle area you need for the velocity of water you want coming out.

Hope this helps

Industrial dishwasher. Most recycle the wash water. The first rinse is recycled from the last rinse which is from fresh water. All applied with spray nozzles.

Nozzles are OK

But you need a total Water Recycling System.

What about compressed air?

Buckminster Fuller used an "atomizer" to spray a fine mist at high velocity. Mostly air, a small amount of water or soap solution.

Sort of like a wet sandblaster.

Installation of nozzle is one of good solutions to conserve water. However people who are carrying out this cleaning work should be informed about the necessity of conservation of water. Awareness of conservation of water is important. There are many recycling plants but add cost to the project.

Firstly Problem statement.

Mr Anonymous should restate thus in very simple English:

  1. I have been assigned the job of Water Conservation in an Ice cream Factory
  2. One area where there is scope of Conserving water is in the washup area where we lazily hose down the parts opened from the ice-cream machine. Can we conserve a lot of water if instead of hosing down at the tap -- we use high velocity nozzles?

How can you conserve by jetting ? The washing person is not the Water Conservationist-- you are.

And washing up is only a few minutes every shift .

Mr Anonymous -- do state your Problem first--. Don't you have a lot bigger problem in hand?

Water use can be reduced through any number of different methods, as the responders to this question have demonstrated.

However, it is of utmost importance to keep in mind the primary requirement is to eliminate any residual bacteria on the equipment and to meet the local health codes. Water reduction is an important secondary requirement, but it does not supercede health requirements.

You must test any method that reduces water to ensure that you are still meeting these health requirements.

It also may be a good idea to develop a time standard for this. It may take 10 min. to do a good job but operator takes 15. He may be standing there waving hose around or talking to another person and not paying attention to the water running.
