Natural Gas Design Standards

05/31/2011 4:32 PM

All:

For quite some time we who design natural gas compression and pipeline systems have been using AGA XFO277 as the standard. This is derived from the API RP500 standards and we harmonize both to make sure our designs are compliant. The old AGA XFO277 has been replaced with a new AGA XL1001. Does anyone on the forum have any knowledge of differences between them?

Thanks / Phillip in Kentucky

This is information your company needs to spend $$$ to receive. If a company needs to comply to a standard, then that company should buy a copy of the standard to have on file.

RVZ: I appreciate your quick response. We do have copies on order now, just wanted to know if someone on the forum had any recent experience and if there were any radical changes to area classification requirements, ventilation or other critical areas.

Thanks / Phillip

Great news! I would think that those standards are fairly specific, and therefore fairly rare. Most likely need to wait til you receive the standards, but in the off chance someone does have the information you are looking for I wish you good luck.

Thanks. As it happens, our IT dept downloaded the PDF of the new standard today. Good fortune to you as well!

"design natural gas compression and pipeline systems"

The standard AGAXL1001 is for classification of locations for electrical installations in gas utility piping and not for above.
