Industrial Circuit Simulation

06/06/2011 4:23 AM

When you design electrical circuits and control panels for industries using PLCs, proximity and other kinds of sensors, do people simulate these circuits before implementing them? What softwares are used for such simulations?

Thanks

Control application program testing can be simulated.

Why anyone would want to simulate a wiring disgram is abstruse at present.

That is what I meant. The simulation of the control program. What softwares can be used?

Thanks

The standard software provided by the PLC manufacturer. Why?

I have been asked to design the electrical control for a retrieval system. I want to simulate the system to check if its logic is correct before finalizing it. This is my first project and I am extra cautious.

Then write a Functional Design Specification document first, and get it agreed. From that agreed document, then write the code. When it doesn't work, point to the agreed document and walk away happy. No need for simuation!

Thanks Mr.PWslack. That might work. But I am also trying to take this opportunity to learn something about simulation of such processes. Now, however, I am not sure if it will be useful to learn that because I do not know if simulation is used often or not.

Is it a requirement of the contract? If not, then don't worry about it.

<...Mr.....> How abstruse.

You'll need to learn how to cut and paste, first. Then, when armed with that knowledge, you will be able to cut and paste the title of your thread into a "search engine". Having done that, you will be presented with over 100,000 possible answers.

Start by typing "how to search" into said "search engine" and then your answer will appear. (Hint: Google) Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with your eyes, I just hit the shrink button. (F11)

I'm available for hire, if you need help. I know nothing about what you are doing, but apparently that's not important.

This is dry humor, it cannot be simulated by you.

This person may be able to help with a simulation. They use chain logic, instead of ladder logic, but you can improvise. (Place cursor over underlined words below and left click)

Analysis poses difficult

Good luck. There may be errors in the above statements. Please check your work with a simulator, before continuing.
