Live Up to Your Nuclear Promise

06/07/2011 9:36 AM

Hi All,

On the eve of a vital vote on taxpayer subsidies for nuclear power, we've published the results of an exclusive opinion poll which shows that the majority of people - 46 per cent - oppose any future subsidy for the nuclear power industry - compared to less than a third who support it (32%).

Can we assume that this Greenpeace "exclusive opinion poll" is completely unbiased?

Hey, I'm in favor of ending all subsidies. Of course, that would include any subsidies that support organizations like Greenpeace; but hey, all of that tax money belongs to the taxpayers and I say let them choose what organizations they want to support.

I believe all power sources are subsidized in some fashion. Somebody pays for the warships that protect the Straits of Hormuz. Somebody gives up a wild river in return for a hydroelectric dam. Somebody pays for the research on wind and solar. Everybody pays to breath coal smoke. It's a matter of which one we think is "safest." I wouldn't take Greenpeace too seriously on this; they've got an agenda, same as us all.
