Conduit Fills

06/09/2011 10:58 AM

So I am new to working in an Engineering Firm and I am working on my first conduit fill spreadsheet. Was just curious if anyone had any helpful tips on how to go about this? What all information should I include, besides the obvious? Also what sort of format could I use to give it a professional feel? If anyone has any example spreadsheets I would definitely appreciate it.

Thanks,

I'm trying to imagine what you mean by a conduit fill spreadsheet. Would this be something for a specific job, or would this be like a table in a reference book that listed a lot of different cable types and sizes with insulation thickness, and then conduit sizes and give the fill percent for various cables or combinations?

I'm more use to having cable and conduit/raceway schedules for a specific job, which specify which conduits and raceways need to be run between specific points and which cables have to be pulled into those conduits and raceways.

A designer in the engineering firm has determined the size of the necessary conduits by consulting tables like I mentioned above.

Again, is your conduit fill spreadsheet trying to take the place of those tables, or is your spreadsheet actually a conduit and raceway schedule for a particular job?

It is for a specific job. I have all of the details and I know how to calculate what I need to calculate. I'm simply asking for other Engineers, that may have had to create a similiar report, for their opinion on how to create it. Just have a list of conduit numbers, with all of the details next to it and the fill % at the end? I have the spreadsheet complete for the most part just looking for someone with more experience to maybe tell me some little things they missed before to make sure I haven't overlooked some not NEEDED but helpful information that I may want to include.

Ok, so in my terms, raceway and cable schedules.

I presume somebody will be checking your work--if so, showing the fill % and all the information you used to determine it will be helpful to the checker. Then you need all the information for the installer. Asking for examples is a good idea, I don't have any at hand.

Tell your boss to hand you a copy of the National Electrical Code Book. Inside you will find everything you need and more.

I'm not sure why ANY of the previous posts are marked OT. The all seem to be directly to the point.

Is this the first time the firm has ever done this?

Has it any procedures to follow? If not, why not?
