Regarding Fixture Designing

04/14/2007 2:12 AM

Dear all ,

I am mechenical engineer from india working in machine manufacturninbg company i need design calculation for clamping force required during machining ,how much cutting force will be exerted on componenr or on fixture duting cutting which can deflect fixture components, if any special arrengment regardint to privent twisting in big jobs ,and fast accurete clamping for v.m.c,h.m.c,5 faces,

If any one have probleam related to fixture or design if i have faced similar probleam and if i have solution then i will definitely help you

If you are a mechanical emgineer you will already know how to calculate the force required....

Please try fixing your 'caps lock' button before answering though...

John,

Here in Latin America A "professor" is not you you will call a post doctorate degree holder. My Tennis instructor for example is a "Proffesor..." (or "Proffe, as they call him here.) Maybe in India The "EMgineer" (as you have titled him,) is different degree all together?

Hi,

I think there is no one solution for such fixtures & will depend on Shape of componenet you are planning to machine, type of maching opeartions you expect before coming to clamping force... Only general guidelines exists...Pl conact me off line if you feel it is difficult to share on list...will try to help...

Bigger is better and more is not enough.

What a blurred question..

If your cutter or the fixture are turning, than measure the torque, hence clamping force etc. If your cutting is done perpendicular to the fixture, you can measure the strain exerted on the cutting tool or the fixture, Measuring the strain might be an option in many different cases. If for some reason you can't do all these, you can than measure power consumption, and extrapolate. etc.

And best of all, If you really want to be helped, be specific, and invest some thinking about how the question should be asked. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to use spell checker. (it's free! and it's on top of this page right next to , in case you didn't see it...)

How many ksi do you think it would take to clamp Electroman's pie hole?

I'm thinking about 752ksi. Anyone else like to hazard a guess?

Does anyone have a design on a fixture for this (muzzle diagram/dwgs)?

Electroman, if you don't want to help, DON'T POST.
