Can't find a connector

06/16/2011 10:10 AM

Hi

I've been tasked with doing something about our old elevator control system CRTs as they are fading out. The data line coming in is a 25-pin male. We have *multiple* old flat screens and some old CRTs laying around that I would like to use instead of purchasing something new. I can't seem to find the right connector: 25-pin female to a 15-pin male VGA -or- 25-pin female to a DVI. I've spent quite a bit of time searching through numerous catalogs and I'm coming up empty. Anyone know where I can find such a beast? Or does it even exist?

John

I have never heard of cable to make that conversion... Seems odd to me. You could use the following two adapters in conjuntion together, I doubt it works but it has all of the fittings you are asking for.

Try Tigerdirect.com link

One other place to look would be Newark Electronic Components Link

Good Luck

Are you saying the old monitors have a DB25 input connection? If you are they are not standard as I know. It maybe something special that was spec out by the company that manufactured the system. VGA uses a HD15 connector. You can get adapters that you have to make up. You will need to know the wiring specs to make the adapter up as you will have to install the wires pin to pin in the adapter.

You may want to look at a DB25 to DB9 Adapter then DB9 to HD15 see if it works.

May require a little mix and match but here's where I go for this kind of stuff.

The DB25 was used with unix boxes with Techsource video cards in the 80's. I would assume other mfrs as well, but we still use the Techsources at my place of work.

We have cables which convert the DB25 to a RGB-sync cable, which plugs into our "high-resolution" monitors (80's technology, again). The output is considered Ultra VGA or some such nonsense.

Back in the mid 1990's I purchased a half dozen special wired adapter connectors from Blackbox, http://www.blackbox.com/Store/storefront.aspx

At the time, they were very reasonably priced. I can't even recall at the moment what the genders or purpose was, other than one was a DB-25.

Blackbox has gotten pretty big, so I don't know if they still do custom adapters or not, but an email or phone call will probably get you an answer.
