Difference Between HT Termination Kit for33kV (E) & 33kV (UE) Cable?

06/18/2011 2:40 AM

Dear All,

Q -1 : Is there any difference in HT Heat Shrinkable Termination Kit used for 33kV HT "Earthed" cable and 33kV HT "Unearth" Cable????

Q-2 : Is it possible to use (UE) rated HT Termination Kit for (E ) rated Cable ???? If not what are the constraints??

Regards,

TD

Dear Tigerdon,

Check the cable dimension difference for same cross-section to be used for UE system and E system. Probably you would get the answer.

Dear Friend,

I know there is a difference in OD of both cables due to higher insulation thickness in UE cable compared to E cable.

But my question is, Technical difference / limited to use UE rated HT termination Kit with E rated HT cable????

Key Technical construction difference between HT Termination kit for UE rated kit Vs E rated kit.

Regards,

TD

Dear Tigerdon,

The only difference is in Pre-shrunk and Post-shrunk size of Kit. When UE kit is to be used in Earthed cable one would be required to do more shrunking of kit may result in damage to kit material because of excessive heat requirement.

You may have noted that same manufacturer offer same kit of one size for Earthed system can be used in UE system for lower size cable.

I concur with the view under post #3.

If the kit provided for Unearthed cable is used for same size of Earthed cable,it would need more shrinking of kit. Due to excessive heat (due to abnormal shrinking of kit),the kit material eventually gets damaged. Hence the constraint.

Same kit provided for one size of unearthed cable can be used for next higher size of earthed cable [or vice versa i.e.same kit provided for one size of earthed cable can be used for next lower size of Unearthed cable].

I fully agreed with above views regarding requirement of more shrinking as the HT kit for UE rated cable shall have more Sleeve OD compared to E rated.

However, I want to know followings;

Q-1 Is there is any difference in phase Horn length / total area required for fitting the Kit in panels for both type of Kits??

Q-2 Is there any difference in Impulse Peak Voltage for the same size of cables for the both (UE) and (E) rated HT termination kit???
