Chloride attack against S.Steel

dear all

just woundering , what is the maximum concentration (ppm) of Sodium Hypochlorite can be used in a water loop circulation for two weeks to kill the pacteria without affecting the s.steel 316L system components?

One wouldn't need any more than 50ppm of hypochlorite, and 316 sees it all the time across the world.

Hypochlorite and choride are two different things.

I agree with PWSlack..... for 316L SS a limit of about 50 -60 ppm is reasonable.

304 SS is more sensitive to chlorides than 316 SS

I see this limit stated in the requirements for hydrotest water when stainless vessels are pressure tested.

Also, you should be aware that stagnant water promotes chloride stress corrosion cracking. If the liquid can be in constant motion, cracking is discouraged
