Hey gurus,
I am on assignment at a vendor and they are having a high number of repairs on x-ray quality B31.3 welds.
I have eliminated welder error after analyzing all of the reader sheets from Radiography. (no pattern existed and the results for all parameters changed dramatically from day to day.
We are looking at chemistry, wire, machines, and constants of power into building.
I found after using 3 vendors for the pipe, one had chemistry that was very different in some elements than the others. We have passed through that supplier and into another and it seems that as of today the repair rate is less than the last 3 weeks.
Oh, we are finding porosity on the pipe end of the weld, not the fitting side.
My guess is laminations and outgassing causing the porosity, what do you all think?
