I would consider that to be a pretty elaborate tongue-in-cheek job, sort of like renaming 1 as 2 so as never to deal with odd integers, which would be demoted to fractions!

The golden ratio [(√5 + 1)/2] is now mostly known as φ (phi), but it used to be known as τ [tau; please excuse this crappy font which also makes π (pi) look goofy]. I'm surprised the writer missed this in his "comprehensive" investigations.

This ill-considered "reform" would kill off the joke about "Pie are not square; pie are round." But we could replace it with, "Tau are not the Way."

We would also lose the elegant identity: e**iπ + 1 = 0, which unites five constants.

Oh yes, reminds me of a guy who cut off one end of his blanket and sewed it on to the other end to make the blanket longer

I don't think anything is going to actually change the ratio of diameter to circumference of a circle.
Its just like the Emperors clothes...or maybe not...whatever.

Nah...it's the same problem done in a different way. There is always more than one way to get to the same conclusion. It's not like they're saying Pi never happened.

Besides...Pi are still round.

I also read it with great amusement. The graphics were very interesting Tau, which is 2 Pi, looks half the pi shown alongside.

With all the ruling party/opposition religious (shall we say sanctimonious?) shenanigans going on at Bangalore we do need such Tau-Pi tussles for comic relief.

With two politicians going to Dharmasthala to invoke divine intervention in their petty squabbles, i do believe that Lord Manjunatha (and the Heggade family) quietly tiptoed away from the holy place, and have just returned after making sure that the coast is clear

Reportedly, there was once a duly-elected member of the Indiana State legislature who wanted to simplify math for school children, in that otherwise fine member State of the U. S. of A., by introducing a measure in said legislature to formally change the numeric value of PI to 3.00000...

It is not entirely clear who took what measures that ultimately lead to the demise of that (inspired ?) effort.

Unfortunately, that was not the only such incident.

I wonder if such silliness started after, or before, water started to get fluoridated, whether taxpayers voted for it, or not ...
