Maybe it's a valve box. That's where valves go.

I couldn't find any "box valve" either, but it might be another term for "knife valve", which sometimes has a rectangular shape.

This makes me think that Lyn is right, and that the specifier really means a valve box. Remember that this is Viet Nam, and the French language legacy may place adjectives after the nouns they modify.

Prasson,

Interesting device. I found this link with a reference to Box valve on a cornet [trumpet]. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gordonmedley/3158449414/

It does look like box-shaped. I am water treatment plant(s) you mention in Vietnam. Do you have any details? - BJInvention

In fact I was reading history of "horns", in which I came across this word. Box valve is used in horns.

Part of content of history is as below:

"This slender piston-type valve had some inherent acoustic problems. For example, the bore of the instrument, disrupted at the 90-degree bend in the windway at the bottom of the valve casing, was then further disrupted in the middle air passage of the valve. In addition, as the air entered the bottom of at least one piston, the valves could push air back at the performer when depressed, creating undesirable back pressure. Valves of this design were also difficult to disassemble.

The valve described in the original 1818 patent of Stölzel and Blühmel is known as the box valve. See figures 3 and 4. Blühmel developed this design in 1817/18 [Heyde, ibid, 22]. Acoustically, this design is theoretically far superior to the Stölzel valve as it avoids sharp bends in the windway, disruptions in the bore, and potential back pressure, but due to its square shape the box valve was undoubtedly difficult to construct and maintain. The box valve was probably applied to only a few horns."

Sorry I am not able to attache the sketches/image of box valve but you can get this detail at link as below:

What I know of a valve box is actually an access at grade that you use a curb key (handle that turns the valve like an extension) these are cylinders not sure where the term box came from but thats what they call them
