LV Switchgears Requirement

06/30/2011 5:42 AM

is it practical to have 300-500mA Earth Leakage protection for the 2500A 4P Main Incoming protection?

It possible but I wouldn't say it's practical. For 2.5KA you must have out going feeds, they would be the best place for E/L protection.

The outgoings are 630A (5x), 400A (3x) & 150A (2x)

For the incoming 2500A 3P ACB (65ka), can i use Icu=Ics=35ka?

Read http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/69820 you started the thread, and as far as I can see it was answered very well.

Thanks TonyS,

I guess i have misinterpret the reply.

It is an arguement with the authorities/clients as they have received comments from the guidelines that the 300-500mA EL Protection must be incorporated to the incoming, regardless of the Capacity.

And, my undertstanding was that if we have installed the mentioned EL Protection to the ACB, that may cause frequent tripping of the system, shall there be any start/stop operation for the downstream loads.

Should we needed more sensitive and prompt protection, isnt that we can install the EL Protection at the downstream. Shall there be any possible fault on Earth Leakage, then it will trip the localised area but not the complete downstream from the Main Distribution Board.

Please comment whether my understanding is right or wrong?

Are they made for that throughput rating?
