Low Cost Styrene Control

07/05/2011 5:32 AM

Hi Guys,

We need a low budget solution to control and capture styrene, we are a small boat yard and operate in a high temp and humidity area of Asia. When we are laminating we control the environment (temp and humidity) with A/C. The resin is producing high levels of styrene, we protect the workers with adequate respiratory protection but the smell of the ventilation exhaust is really bad. What we are looking for is a solution where we can safely capture the styrene and hopefully recyle the cooled air back into the laminating shed without spending huge money on plant/equipment.

What is wanted is a low-volatility, low-odour solvent into which styrene dissolves readily, into which the extract streams can be bubbled. Ooooh, how about, say, a mixture of alkenes in the 20-carbon-chain region - a bit like diesel fuel, only heavier?

Kick it around, CR4!
