Most of the people who come here give a one sentence, incomplete request, and expect us to do their research for them.

Just like you did. Sorry if I sound unfriendly. You have given no useful information that would allow anyone to you any help.

Good luck.

i've used a starter-generator from an old garden tractor for this purpose. you should be able to buy a used at a very reasonal price. you will also need the correct voltage regulator.

thanks for reminding me about the starter generator. I had plans to power a dc motor

with my solar power and generat dc power running the dc motor in reverse. the type and name of the dc motor escapes me for the moment. but again thanks

I had plans to power a dc motor with my solar power and generat dc power running the dc motor in reverse.

That's not very clear. I can interpret it two ways:

1) Solar Panel > DC motor > Generator (DC motor in reverse) > electricity.
(I really hope this is not your plan.)

or

2) Use solar power for the motor part of the time, then other times, spin the motor backwards to generate electricity.

If #2, what work is being done with the motor when under solar power? How are you going to spin it (with what source of power) in generator mode?

#2 run the motor 12v with solar power lifting a 3 lb weight ???

at shut off it runs in reverse and generates the power

That's terribly inefficient. Just use rechargeable batteries.

Why not eliminate the middlemen and have the solar system drive the load directly?

i agree. using 12v dc solar power to recharge ten srorage batteried connected in paralell, then convert them to run in series will produce 125v dc power. a dc to ac inverter should produce 120v ac. i don't know how efficenent it would be or the switching involved the voltage will drop as the batteries weaken

fredski, i wished more people on this site would be blunt and to the point. there's alot of people on this site that over thinks the problem. do we need mathematical formulas to solve a one sentence problem? i can'thelp to think they're just showing off.

Any permanent magnet DC motor will fit the current specification.

Try putting some more numbers onto it.
