Words Meanings

07/12/2011 7:18 PM

When dealing with other parts of the world, sometimes things get lost in translation.

Even when they are the same language. Like from the UK a Boot of a car is the trunk in the USA.

This being said, When you get an invoice from the UK, and this is on it

"CARRIAGE/PACKING CHARGE" and a monetary value next to it,

What do you think it means?

Thanks for the two replies so far.

People please keep replying but also add where you happen to be from, so we can see where else in the world how this is translated to mean.

So far I think the same way as the two replies so far.

All correct so far. Carriage means freight or shipping costs. Semantically there might be slight differences, but in this instance it means the same; the cost of delivery from supplier to purchaser.

Thank You All for all the replies so far.

So far it is pretty unanimous that it is the equivalent of SHIPPING AND Handling.

Please anyone else please comment on this. I will give the reason for asking tomorrow.

I dread to think what you would have made of P&P (post and packing).

He he he.

Yeah Things are getting better between them and me. They still say that that means packing only.

They are supposed to be sending me a revised cost for shipping.

Even tho I still think I shouldn't have to pay any more at all since the invoice says what it says.

But hey they got my money, they are a GIANT company, and I am only a guy that is disabled in my basement trying to survive.
