Girls are making their mark in every aspect of engineering. i have seen young women in hard hats supervising large construction projects. But why the antipathy to design ? i can assure you that it is a fascinating field. i am an electrical engineer myself, but have designed many products for which i had to acquire considerable knowledge in mechanisms, springs, plastics, manufacturing methods and so on....

In my opinion, there is no other job in which your engineering education is so fully utilised. In fact, you will find that you will have to learn quite a bit that you were not taught in college.

Machined parts are part of almost every manufactured technology. Your mechanical engineering background should make you a valued contributor in a precision machining company. What you learn there will pay dividends for the rest of your career regardless. Whatever you say you can or can't do you are right. so don't say "I can't" too much.

good luck

My first advice " don't listen to what people say ".

As you pass out, initially you should try and join any good instrumentation company like Honeywell/Foxbro/Forbes marshall etc., there you will learn application & selection of engineering equipments & instrumentation/automation. When you spend your initial 2 years here, you will get the experience of mastering in engineering /selection as well as you will be making some site visits to see a couple of installation and operation at time of commissioning. Rest assured that some of your Clients will give you the offer of taking over as an engineering manager.
