Kia Sportage Central Locking Problem

07/21/2011 6:28 PM

I have a 2001 Model Kia Sportage, and today I tried to change the CD player, however the central locking on the car now does not work. Is there any link with the cd wiring and the central locking wiring?

Evidently there is, but I can't say because I have never worked on a Kia. However, it's easy to dislodge an electrical connection while working under or behind a crowded dashboard.

My two vehicle re-wiring experiences, one of which entailed replacement of the entire inside-the-cab wiring harness, taught me the value of a factory service manual (or the lack of one). Sometimes the same conductor will be assigned a different color on the other side of an inline connector, and there are often places where nothing is supposed to go on the vehicle you are working on. It is a great help to have an authoritative reference.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least, Honda started installing the remote door lock electronics in the CD player maybe 10 years ago. The work around was to leave the factory unit up under the dash and disconnect the speaker wires for the new harness. Was a real pain but it worked and the owners actually knew where the OEM head unit was when they turned in the leased car (mount it REAL well!). Of course since the lost the faceplate by then they still got charged for a complete radio.

Good luck and let me know if a new car has room under the dash for dust, let alone a spare head unit.

Check the fuses

Both of them get live direct for the battery

The center looking is obvious

And the radio is to keep the memory

You may have burned the fuse

It is the first step

All the best
