DC Motor Bridge Driver

07/25/2011 9:31 PM

I am using a Bridge driver for a DC brush motor for the first time and i am clueless about how to set the Vref pin, for example the Toshiba TA8409SG, it only says Vref <=VS(motor supply). Is Vref the treshold voltage on which the inputs switches?

Hope someone can enlighten me

Normally It is connected to supply voltage, that will let out put to be controlled between zero and Vref= supply voltage. If you wish to narrow output range you can reduce voltage on Vref.

Thanks for the info, lots of specs on bridge drivers are somewhat vague on Vref.

Usually this is to setup the maximum voltage that the motor can handle, from the motor specs.

It could be set lower, if you don't want the motor to turn at its maximum ever.....

Its an adjustment which allows you, for example, to use a 12 volt motor, when the supply is actually 24 volts, you just adjust Vref to 12 volts before attaching the motor for example.

I hope this helps.
