MGE UPS 60KVA Galaxy 5000

07/26/2011 3:49 AM

I have a UPS (MGE Galaxy 5000, 60kva). A month back, its PFC board, charger fuse and AC Normal fuses got blown after some mains power transients....and of course showing the respective alarms. I ordered for spares and have fixed them now. However, two of the AC Normal Fuses blow again while am trying to start up the unit i.e. immediately I close static by-pass breaker (Q4S). When I follow the circuit, the only thing between the Normal AC input fuse & the input breakers (Q1/Q4S) is the input filter board. Kindly assist me to troubleshoot the cause of this fault (blowing the ac normal input fuses)??

What are the ohms readings downstream of the fuses?

The last time I had exactly the same scenario on my MGE Galaxy 5000 60kva....I found that one of "thyristors - for the yellow/middle phase" located behind the "normal AC main power supply board - CSNEN board" had failed. Immediately I replaced that with the "opened" input fuses....UPS worked perfect.
