Hi, is there any special type of surge protector I should use for a treadmill its a powerful one. Not sure about the horse power rating. If so which type should I use. Thank you...

Since it's a powerful treadmill I suggest a powerful surge protector.

If you want to reduce the surge (energy demand) the most obvious ways are:

1. Reduce the load (friction bed lubrication for example)

2. Increase the stored energy (flywheel size)

3. Electrically, introduce a mains choke (but this will also increase response time)

Footfall on a treadmill is a cyclic load, maybe you should only allow smaller, slower runners on it

What's your real problem? Limited power supply? Fuses cb tripping?

I bought a treadmill from this shop http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/treadmills/10026_0c.html and use it in my garage, keeps tripping the fuse.

its very annoying, do you think i should ask the shop if there is anything wrong with it? or is it normal? FYI its a powerful machine with a 3HP motor and it only seems to trip when i use it for 1 hour or more.

if it keeps tripping the fuse then the treadmill is just a mean son of a bitch! ha!

but seriously, where are you? what is your mains voltage? 3HP equates to around 2.2kW, at 240 volts you're around 9 amps. what else is sharing that circuit/power point? if you turn off the 72inch plasma tv does it still trip? is it the circuit breaker or the earth leakage tripping? stick a megOhm meter on the treadmill and see what you get. ... call an electrician?
