Core Material

07/30/2011 1:45 AM

Good day!

What are the parameters to look at while selecting a material for Stator & Rotor core of Induction motors....?

i select Cold rolled, Non grain oriented silicon steel having a 3.5% silicon content...

What are the other parameters too look at..? & why?

What is the best material for stator & rotor core? now a days material with 6.5% silicon is also there....

Just Google "material+Stator+Rotor+core"

My guess is alloying Ni could improve performance but at a cost factor.

Frequency of operation / rotation may also effect the desired composition.

Are you asking this question in the capacity of a designer? If yes, then there should be more details available to decide the grade of steel like capacity, size and weight restriction, aimed efficiency, cost of each KW of losses of the motor (capitalized value), type of cooling so on and so forth. Based on above information further advice could be given.
