Variable speed BLDC or Switched Reluctance Motor

I need the design for a variable speed Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM), or any other similar high performance motor, along with controller. I am looking for someone who can help me design this based on my required set of parameters.

This is to create a drive system for Electric Vehicles. To start with I need a motor that can fit inside a 12" dia wheel, with rotor on the outside and stator on the inside.

This wheel shall be able to rotate at 720 RPM maximum with an apprximate longitudinal speed of 60 KMs /Hour at a toque of 50-65 Nms.

I am willing to spend about 10K on the prototype.

I would be happy to help you.

My first suggestion would be to find motors that fit the torque requirements you are wishing for. From there, you can start looking at what is needed, electrically, to ensure a proper control profile.

Hello EE_Dude,

Thanks for the response to my thread. It is not just about a suitable motor, but about "the motor" that we can make in various suitabilities.

Here is the need and opportunity to fill that need:

There are several hunderds of millions of Automobiles that still run on fossil fuel which is getting more and more expensive. As you already know the alternative now is to power the vehicles using a battery, be it a Lead Acid or other chemistries.

Various parameters which are hinderance to the success of such objective are 1) quantitative (speed, torque, power, acceleration, range, operating cost) and 2) qualitative (performance degradation - penalty and incentive, charge time, battery swapping, availability of electricity, etc.)

What I am trying to acheive is to chop the list down by a couple items by building a better mousetrap .i.e motor that that can provide better torque and better speed at lesser power so that we are ahead of the game vis-a-vis others already in terms of technology.

Most of the Chinese manufacturers are focused on cheap parts without taking time to understand the technology. It is short cut. The the kind of expertise we need for success of an EV is - battery, motor, controller, charger, mechanical designs, body and parts, etc. For this project, you need either tons of money (like GM Ford, Toyota) or need a team of highly qualified people with passion and dedication. Gas vehicle costs about 30 cents per Mile ( 20 cents as depreciation and insurance, 10 Cents for Gas and repairs to maintain. My target is to have this down by 10 Cents per mile. Don't ask me how - because I still have to put the theory in work. But the idea is to reduce overall motor size by using smart control and bold motor design. There will be some performance limitations, but well out weighted by the benefits. Here the key is to come up with a bright concept otherwise there isn't much degree of freedom in what you can do for an EV.

These are my thoughts and any help to create the perfect motor for this end objective, is appreciated.
