Why Can't we Use Fuse in Current Transformer?

why we are using fuse in VT alone...... i want to knw why we are not using fuse in secondary side of CT..???? if any short occurs in the sec side of ct... higher current flow than the normal current.... so there could be a possible tat over current relay can trripp...???

The fuse is a device to protect the wiring from overcurrent.

On the secondary side of a current transformer the current is proportional to that flowing in the primary and there is no possible source of overcurrent in the secondary as the primary overcurrent protection devices will operate first.

A current transformer not connected to an indicator device, as would be the case were a fuse to be installed in the secondary, will cause very high voltages to appear in the secondary wiring that may be sufficient to break down insulation.

So a fuse is neither necessary nor desirable in the secondary circuits of a current transformer.

Bingo.

This by the way is the same reason why you must use shorting terminal blocks in the CT secondary circuit if you want to keep equipment operating in the even of a meter failure or removal.
