Loading of Electrical Motor

08/10/2011 2:07 AM

Good day!

I want to load the Permanent magnet synchronous motor & want to check the performance.... Range of motor is (0-30)KW

Apart from mechanical loading, What are the loading facility available..?

With regards,

The choice of range is interesting; at least it should be easy to test the performance of a 0 KW motor.

A prony brake can test torque, which can be multiplied by rpm and a constant to get power. You might also attach the motor to a pump, and measure flow and pressure. A bit more Rube Goldberg, you could use the motor to drive a generator, testing its output with a load bank (basically an array of resistance heaters).

Use a dc machine and regenerative DC drive for your mechanical load.

Mount motor in gimbals with a torque arm and load cell.

Load up the drive, measure torque, speed, amps, volts etc.

Since the DC machine is regenerative your power requirement is only the losses in the system.
