You should look at the millions of mechanical engineer's resumes on the net. That will give you some ideas of what the unemployed engineers think they did.

Unfortunately, the job of a mechanical engineer, or any other job for that matter, is to do what you're told. Freestyle thinkers often times find their way to the back door.

Thank God you are not working in a foreign but India. In a foreign they will give you 30 min for lunch and 15 min x 2 nos break and you will not find to pee even, unlike India, where, you have time to sit, have tea get jobs done via helpers, get your tea by chaprasis. You are 10 times better off.

Apparently good engineering jobs are all about the tea. Besides, if he drinks that much tea, he'll need a lot of pee breaks, so engineering out of the country is out of the question!

Can you justify why do you want to work only in foreign countries?

Which foreign countires do you mean?

If you work in developed countries systems, tools & good working procedures take care of. It is more of a professional environment.Innovations, change for progress are also will be part of the culture.

If you choose developing & talent remote countries you got to take charge of the entire activites.Hands on experience can only help you to survive.

If you take the purpose of eating -it makes no difference between india & foreign countries.

Like wise a meachanical engineer is a professional involved in maintenance, services, erection of machines & utilities, attending break downs as well as desgn & fabrications as per the need criteria.

It further depends upon what type of Industry you choose- production plants, assemble lines, auto mobiles , engineering, type of products, erection & service and lot more.Designing & fabrications are also part your job.

It is better to shape your values & knowledge as a professional engineer as top priority and not prejudices or sentiments on where you want to work.

No company offers free & lavish money. More the responsibility & job risks, more could be your compensation.

Well, so long as there are jobs relating to mechanics & thermal engineering, construction, safety, plumbing, instrumentation and automation, automotive, so on and so forth.

I bet, if you become a good one, you have big chances to get a descent job compared to other type of engineering (Civil, Electronics & Communication, Metallurgical & others)

At this juncture you are asking " what is job of Mechanical engineers", then how did you decide to study Mechanical engineering?

Mechanical Engineering, if you intend to work in foreign, be ready to work at least 2 to 3 grades down as compare to designation of engineers in India. Ducon had answered you well.

More over, you may make up your mind, you can join some foreign company and still work in India under banner of that company, because you know these days, jobs are there in India but foreign companies are doing those projects.

Except for sitting idle and taking shortcuts like those you have taken many times in your post, A mechanical engineer is supposed to do everything that is necessary to perform his or her job efficiently.
