TEEVEE miserEE

08/18/2011 1:01 AM

When you live on an island, also TV is a challenge as there are many other. Expensive monopolists made us go through the whole hacker business, direcTV, FTA and more experiments with more programming and searching time than time to watch.

I have now a cable with 50 channels (full of commercials) and an official direcTV satellite dish and receiver and a CCTV network that I have distributed to several rooms in the house. nicely numbered 3= Satellite, 4=CCTV and also the 50 channels, all on one cable.

Will the fun be over?

The cable goes DIGITAL, while now I can select the channels with my TV's.

CCTV and the satellite VIDEO signal is also converted and mixed in the same line - all ANALOG.

Do I need to get everything digital (box) for each TV? and do I need a second COAX to distribute the CCTV and Satellite to each TV?

Or is there still hope?

Thanks. D.

Shoot the damned TV, get a music/video system, listen to NPR, and/or read books.

I am not a TV freak at all. I keep these working to keep others busy, so I can do something else undisturbed. Thanks

Then do conservatives omit all the other choices, and watch TV, the great wasteland? If so, I'm glad I'm not one of them. (Your implication is not entirely correct, anyway.)

Hello, If the cable 50 channels will work without a cable box like using a digital tunner tv then you should be able to mix the cctv on one analog channel ex:ch4, use the analog out of the sat box set to analog channel ch3, than pass the 50 channel digital signal on through. My "digital tv" tunner is capable of programing both analog and digital then switching between them when changing channels. no problem.

I think you will need to find a master distribution amplifier that has the proper inputs capabilities and proper filter/isolation to prevent interference.

I hope this helps you.

thanks,

The problem is that there are 10 TV's and they want to watch all different things I guess. (Murphy's Law). I don't have a digibox yet, but I assume the analog output is only the conversion of the selected channel. is this right?

I yes this leaves me with the 3 and 4 and a different number if I find a converter.

The TV with the box has it all?

I am violating my normal rule of never posting anonymously for this reply, for obvious reasons. The wife (the only one in the household who watches television) was having trouble with the converter from the Cable TV company, and out of frustration, connected the cable directly to the TV, bypassing the converter box. It worked. I have no clue as to whether this will work in all circumstances, but it worked for her...

Some cable channels use the same carriers which are demodulated on a standard set. There is also the issue of a cable company which must provide "local broadcasts" for emergency/civil defense rules.

A good chunk of the cable channels (numbering into the 900's at my house) are simply unreachable for a standard receiver.

So, your other wives don't watch television?
