Batch Number Reading Sensor

08/24/2011 11:00 PM

I am working in a pharmaceutical company. Is anyone has the experience of what sensor to be used to ensure that any box should have been printed of its batch number prior to releasing it for distribution? Thank you.

Look into "Vision Systems". A camera reads each object as it goes by. The software uses optical character recognition with input from the camera and you can program it for what you want it to look for.

The above link will get you started.

Good luck

Dear Mikerho.

Thank you for your information.

With regard to vision system, is it a full-automatic reader (replacing visual checking) which is able to reject boxes with defective printed batch no and/or boxes without batch no printed on it?

Looking forward to receiving further information.

Thank you.

You have to do some of the work yourself.

Take a look at package sorters used by FedEx/UPS/DHL/USPS.

The digital camera supplies the reading, of whatever you want to be read, or seen. It is solid, you can rely upon. YOU supply the template, data conversion, or whatever it needs to make sense FOR YOUR CASE. No two applications are alike, no two programs alike. It will cost you, obviously.

There are several ways to go about it, you can use vision system to verify that the code is printed and correct. Otherwise you may use a luminescence sensor if the code is printed with UV ink. If the ink is black on white background you could use a contrast sensor.
