1999 Toyota 4 Runner Panle Malfunction

08/25/2011 7:27 AM

The panel of my 1999 Toyota 4 runner recently stopped working. The rpm, odometer, fuel gauge and speedometer stopped reading. I took off the negative battery terminal for sometime and restored it and the panel started working again. After two days it stopped working. Can anyone give me clue as to how I can fix this problem once and for all.

You reset the vehicle management system (computer) when you disconnected the battery. You would need a pin-out of the black boxes and probably a logic probe, then start your checks. The computer is usually the lowest replaceable unit, so combing some junkyards for a compatible unit may be a good option.

Hi

Have you checked the negative cable where it grounds to the engine block for corrosion?
