Deep Well Motor Breakdown

08/25/2011 9:19 PM

I have a problem related to a deep well motor. The ground motor MS 6000 37 kW was used in the field and almost every year the motor brokedown. The indication was earth fault. I suspected the problem was caused by the hot water entering the motor.

I would like to know if anyone else ever experienced the same problem.

You should monitor the water temperature every month or year,it keeps on increasing as you keep on pumping. Inform the manufacturer the latest value of temperature and ask for suitable insulation for the windings. Similar thing happened in Saudi arabia in 1980s,many KSB (west german) motors burnt prematurely and had to be rewound.

You didn't mention regarding its design-whether it is water cooled, whether water has sand, acidity etc, whether OL/UV/phase failure/dry running protection working etc. Are you measuring water level periodically-it keeps on dropping over the years. When we place order for sub-pump we do a water analysis and send the report to manufacturer to select suitable materials for the motor/pump.

For all comments, thanks your reply. The answers is really give me "idea". My position is in electrical scope, so I mostly work in electrical area.

what Pnaban explained (water level, temperature) will become my consideration.

In saudi arabia they mentioned something like "iron-bacteria" too.
