Inspiration Needed...

09/01/2011 11:48 AM

Good morning all...

I have searched the site, but have not found quite what I am looking for.

One of my staff members, a ME with many years of experience, has just recently qualified for his P.Eng designation.

As I feel such things are to be celebrated, we are going to mark the occasion with gag gifts, coffee and tidbits tomorrow. Amongst the things I wanted to get for him was a list of "dumb engineer quotes" to include in his gift bag.

So... if you have any good dumb engineering one liners or quotes you have heard over the years... please share them.

North of 60...

PS... if you have a source for the quote, please include it so credit may be given.

Thanks... when I searched, the list that popped up was daunting and to be frank, I did not have the time at that moment to go through them. Thanks again.

Just give him a folio of the pictures from "caption this" and call it his "bucket list".

Until he can cite where he saw a similar failure/catastrophie/near miss he has to stay in the "junior" ranks and make coffee for all in the office (until a more junior employee commences)

Hi,

Not from a list, but a true story, many years ago I had an Engineering Manager who indeed said the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

We were in a client meeting and presenting a prototype of their requested product. When it didn't quite work as expected (gross understatement), the client was more than a little upset, having traveled and taken a day from his other work to visit us.

My Manager, returned the attitude to the client, and in a huff said, "Your product request never said it had to work!", and stormed out of the meeting.

Details aside, it is safe to report that the client left and never returned ... and the manager was asked to leave ... hmm ... and never return.

And, no, I won't tell you the origins of that story .

Kind regards ...
